Getting in touch

Write to [email protected]. One person reads it, so an answer takes a day or two rather than an hour.

Vartu holds your records on your own device, so nobody here can look at your data to diagnose something. The more you can tell us about what you did and what happened, the faster it goes.

Prices are not updating

Prices need an API key from a provider — yours, not ours — and every free plan has a limit. Open Settings → Prices: each provider shows whether its key is saved and how much of today's allowance is left. Tap one to add a key; the screen walks through getting a free one.

Twelve Data allows 8 requests a minute and 800 a day; Finnhub 60 a minute with no daily cap, for US listings only; Alpha Vantage 25 requests for the whole day. Switch on more than one and Vartu asks whichever can answer without waiting.

If one holding never gets a price, the provider probably spells its ticker differently. Open the holding and set its price symbol, or type a price in by hand.

Importing a statement

Vartu reads CSV exports from banks and brokers. The first time you import from a bank you choose which column is the date, which is the amount and which is the description; after that it remembers. Exports from money apps such as Moneyhub, Emma and Snoop keep their categories and accounts — see Moving from another app. PDF statements are not read in this version — export the same period as CSV.

Backups

Settings → Backup writes a copy of the whole database that you can put anywhere: Files, iCloud Drive, or off the phone entirely. Restoring replaces everything with what the file holds. There is no automatic cloud copy you have to trust.

Subscription

One account and one broker account are free for as long as you like, with manual entry, categories, search and prices. Vartu Pro (£49.99 a year, first month free) adds everything else, and Vartu Pro Family (£69.99 a year) shares it with up to six people through Apple Family Sharing. What each plan includes.

Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone — that is Apple's screen, not ours. Nothing you have recorded is ever deleted when a subscription ends, and a full export stays available.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes everything it holds. There is nothing on a server to ask us to remove, because there is no server.
